You're right, Yadda, but what most JWs don't realize is that stuff like this generation and 1914 isn't fringe garnish, it IS THE PLATE ON WHICH THE ENTIRE MEAL RESTS. Take away 1914 and it's subsequent generation and they lose their 1919 appointment as the FDS. Suddenly the rank and file are individuals again and no longer belongings. If only more of the JWs could see it...

Seems to me that it shortens it to two overlapping generations. 2008 was vaguely just "the anointed" so that as long as anyone was still alive, nibbling, and sipping at the Memorial, they could claim the generation is continuing. Now, it appears that the last of the current anointed has to be at least old enough to have been born while the 1914 era anointed was still alive to be part of the official generation.
That's my take on it.

You make a good point, Paul. The fear and guilt is a powerful control tool. And they've had numerous "trust us" articles from the GB in recent years, too.
They don't want people to think. They don't want people to analyze. They want yes-men who are totally confident that everything the GB tells them to think is The Truth.
It's sad.
I'm still trying to get my head around the apparent fact that these guys who aren't particularly bright can be so incredibly brilliant at manipulation. Maybe it just comes naturally to them. I know I couldn't pull it off.

I'm hoping another shoe drops. There have been a lot of changes in the past couple years and they make the rank and file uncomfortable. New meeting arrangements. New songbooks. New generation teaching. Is the next shoe going to be the still-rumored elimination of circuit overseers for the 2011 service year? More changes mean more disgruntlement and that's always good.

No.
Therefore, it seems better for the greater good that the GB and their borg get more and more loony to the point that nobody anywhere is willing to join than it would be for them to straighten out their house in a futile attempt to whitewash their graves.

A possible explanation for the new "Generation" understanding
by agonus inholy crap, i just realized something!.
could it be that the unusually quickly-replaced "new light" came about as a result of the wt's last explanation unintentionally matching generation 2, then changing it again once they (and countless folks on the internet) figured out it was the same explanation, to save face?.
i mean, is it possible the gb made up the last "new light" completely unaware that it matched the 1927 explanation, then changed it in an oh-shit moment when they realized not long after that they'd already used that one?.

Mill Hill Disfellowshippings
by BorgHater ina few months ago there was a thread about a couple of elders at the mill hill bethel being disfellowshipped because they disagreed with some wt doctrine (i can't recall exactly what it was) and that several other betheliteswere under 'investigation'.
i haven't heard anything since, does anyone know anything more about this?.
